Hi! Welcome to the first in a series of blog posts that will be following my role as part of the campaign team at TheDarkMaze_exe, where our aim is to shed light on dark patterns.
We decided that our first piece of content would be our podcast and for this week I was production manager.
Wednesday 22nd Feb
Before the content creation week began, I made a draft plan of what we needed to accomplish for the week and shared this with everyone. Sending this out early allowed everyone to be on the same wavelength for what the week would entail; something that’s especially important in a new group and as a new manager (Gerard, 2015). Similarly, this also allowed time for us to discuss and make any edits to the schedule without causing delays.

One difficulty as a production manager is understanding everyone’s external commitments and workloads, because this impacts what deadline’s you might set. Nevertheless, our team is great at communicating and we actively use our Whatsapp chat to make others aware of any change of plans/availability issues.
Friday 24th February
Today, I booked the podcast studio for next Friday. A key part of the production manager’s role is to book equipment and so it was important to do this early on before it could get booked up.
We had two new people added to our group today which makes us a group of six. This meant I had to adapt the schedule to incorporate these extra roles. Whilst initially I panicked about these last-minute changes, after breaking down the schedule it was easy to deduce where extra help would be needed. Again, communication as a group is key and we instantly added our new members to the Whatsapp chat so we could all stay connected.
Friday 3rd March
We met up at the podcast studio to begin recording. There was only a slight hiccup with not having a code to access the studio, but I quickly resolved this by sending an email. In hindsight, I should’ve confirmed when I booked it if there was anything else we would need.
Our podcast recording went smoothly, we’d decided that because it was our first piece of campaign content we wanted to keep it casual and so the podcast focused on general chatting and personal anecdotes. I think this went down very well and we flowed well as a team while recording it so I hope you guys like it when you listen to it!

We also decided to upload our podcast with captions to Instagram to engage a wider audience to interact with our campaign across platforms.
